Finally, though information are similar, the company needs to pay great attention to the manner the information are communicated to the employees at both the locations (Yamauchi, 2001). The advertisement strategies are such that customers pay increased attention to the ads and within them inculcates the demand for the products. The Effect Of Minimum Wage Increase On Childrens Social...

Arguments for an Increase in the Minimum Wage One of the most obvious and anticipated effects of a minimum wage increase is the income increase especially for families on and below the poverty line. An approximated 16.5 million people stand to gain from added wages, and most families incomes would, in fact, rise above the federal poverty threshold (Congressional Budget Office). With so many families depending on the minimum wage to forge a livelihood, an increase would be a blessing in disguise. It is a fact that some American families have parents working up to two or three jobs to keep up with the cost of living which is dynamic in nature. As such, children grow up with absentee parents and lacking the attention they need to enhance their psychological well-being. Increasing the minimum wage is likely to ease the pressure from such families and encourage more cohesive family units. The proposed minimum wage increase also has the benefit of improving working women’s social and economic standings, making it popular with women (Wihbey). This was particularly noted in President Barack Obama’s 2013 State of the Union address to the people of the United States (Wihbey). The role of women in society needs no introduction nor explanation. Women are considered the core of the family and society in many communities the world over. The Good Life - Philosophy 112 - 1001 Words

PHI-112, Summer 2013 The Good Life, Late-Modern vs. Post-Modern Hart, M. J. June 16, 2013 Most of the late-modern philosophers took a completely different view of ethics and a moral society as their predecessors. Aside from Kierkegaard’s deeply religious views, their ideas were to get away from religion being necessary to achieve a good life. The emphasis was one in which people should not think in order to be ethical one must be religious. This seemed as if they were all of a sudden coming out and saying the earlier philosophers were wrong in tying ethics and religion. Her statement, â€Å"And I should be inclined to congratulate the present-day moral philosophers on depriving ‘morally ought’ of its now delusive appearance of content..† (Story of Ethics, Clark amp; Poortenga, chapter 5, pg 118) shows her understanding of this. He described a view of making a society with basic rights and liberties for all without insisting one must adhere to any religious doctrine in order to do this. This seems to coincide with the overall view that certain acts can be determined to be either good or evil, without insisting on a referral to theology. Utilitarianism Analysis Essay Example For Students

Utilitarianism Analysis Essay Despite making valid claims on justice, John Stuart Mill s attempt toreconcile justice and utility is not successful. Mill explains how justicedictates certain actions and results; however, he does not thoroughly explainhow each aspect promotes the most utility for all. In other words, Milldescribes how the different interpretations of justice are often interpreted, while explaining that there is too individual interpretation, he demonstrateshow justice cannot be reconciled with utility. Mill begins his argument bygiving five interpretations of justice. First, is the notion that it isunjust to deprive a person of their liberty, property, or any other thingwhich belongs to him(Mill, 43). Next he goes on to describe how justice, wheninterpreted as a legal right, should always be upheld and thoroughly obeyed. Mill attacks this claim by explaining that laws are sometimes unjust, and thatmost laws follow the general laws of what is morally right. Thus in mostinstances, as Mill claims, laws are not needed. He then goes on to examine theclaim that justice can be correlated to what one deserves(Mill, 44). Thisclaim also leaves too much room for individual pleasure. The next rule ofjustice Mill discusses refers to the notion of faith. According to Mill thisrule is, not regarded as absolute, but as capable of begin overruled by astronger obligation of justice on the other side(Mill, 44). Lastly, Millexplains how being partial is not in accordance with justice. Bydisallowing partiality, a general interpretation of justice warrantsimpartiality, which then would in turn promote the most utility for all. According to Mill the notion that justice promotes impartiality is acontradiction. Mill declares that equality, which emerges fromimpartiality, cannot exist in a hierarchical society. Furthermore, he says that, those who think that utility requires distinctions of rank do not consider itunjust that riches and social privileges should be unequally dispensed(Mill,45). Mill conveys the idea that justice has a flaw in that is allows fordifferent people to have different levels of utility. This placing of onegroups desires for utility above anothers is congruent to the act-utlilitariansclaim that all actions should are determined by their consequences. Thus, underact-utilitarianism one may be impartial as long his or actions promote the bestconsequences, which in this case would deprive not promote a shred utility. Inconclusion, Mill reiterates that does not have a clear understanding of thecommon link between the different interpretations of justice. He states, among so many diverse applic ations of the term ?justice, which yet isnot regarded as ambiguous, it is a matter of some difficulty to seize the mentallink which holds them together, and on which the moral sentiment adhering to theterm essentially depends(Mill, 45).
