ICT Ethics for Hedonic Value and Perceived - MyAssignmenthelp.com
Question: Discuss about theICT Ethicsfor Hedonic Value and Perceived Risk. Answer: Introduction There has been a huge development in the field of information technology. But it this development a large number of ethical issues have also come up (Davenport, 2013). Ethics is very important in every form of life and in every fields of life and the field of information technology is no different. Hence, the technologies of the world should also compliance with the ethics and the rules of the ethics. Although some issues have come up recently violating the ethical contexts. This report consist of a situation in which the ethical theories are in question. This report involves the case of the Romantic relationships of the human beings with the robots. The report includes a short summary of the situation that is hand and the discussions about the ethical theories and the violation of the theories. In addition to this causes of the violation of the theories are also provided in the report. Background of the Situation In the article In future Humans will form romantic relationship with the robots, released by the Daily Mail on March 4, 2016, it has been mentioned that the artificial intelligence has been used to construct robot that are capable of loving the human beings and are also capable of forming romantic relationships with the human beings. The robots have been described as the prefect companions in some of the articles and also it has been said that by 2050 these technologies would be implemented and these technologies would be very efficient for making successful relationships (De Graaf et al., 2015). In addition this there are concepts of robophilia that is basically developing relationships with robots or developing attractions for the robots. The main reason for the development of the concept is that the robots can decide the level of interaction that a human being requires to be happy. Hence, the robots can be designed in a process so that they do only perform the positive sides of th e relationship and negate the effects of the negative side effects of the relationship. In addition to this the robot can also respond to the mood of the person. All this abilities of the robot would be diminishing the requirement of a human partner. And this raises the issue of the report. The human beings would be gradually losing the connection with each other. In addition to this the robots would never be able to love the humans back. They may be programmed to love a human being but the instinctive feeling of affection of person for another person would be lost forever. In addition tom this it is impossible for a machine to reproduce without the engagement of two natural human beings. This would be very unethical and also raises various other non-ethical issues. The main ethical issue is the disengagement among the human beings and the concept of loving a material that would not love the human back. In addition to this the non-ethical issues that would be raised are the concept of reproduction. There would be a high level of inefficiency in this sector of the technology and even if there are methods introduced for the solution to this issue it is thought that the child that would be reproduced would be lagging the characteristics of a naturally born child. In addition this the ethical issues that are raised in this situation would be violating the classical ethical theories: The Utilitarian Theory The Utilitarian theory is involved with the concepts of the classical theories of ethics that is concerned with the maximum utilization of the resources for the maximum number of people (Chi et al., 2014). According to the Utilitarianism theory all the human beings should be getting equal opportunity of getting the love and affection and also should be to love each other without any restrictions but the emergence of this kind of technology would be taking away the equal opportunities of all the human beings. This technology would be taking away the feel of human be actually loved. In addition to this the love and affection would be flowing in a single directions and people would not be receiving the same feeling that they are showing and this would be violating the utilitarian theory of classical ethics. The Deontology Theory The deontology theory is concerned with the review of the morality and justification of the ethics that are concerned with the development of the certain things. These theories are based on certain rules of the ethical theories (Paquette et al., 2015). The issues that is discussed in this report does not compliance with the deontology theory. The technology has a duty and morality of loving back a person if some loves them but the robots would only react according to the algorithm that is designed by the programmers. But, the robots actually have no real feeling of love towards the person. Hence this technology would be violating the theory of deontology according to the classical theories of ethics. The Virtue Ethics Theory The virtue ethics theory are related with the characters of person and has the involvement of the ethical thinking in them. According to the virtue theory a person who is virtuous would be following the virtues at the workplace efficiently. But in the present scenario the robots would not have any sense of virtue that would be acquired by them (Hursthouse, 2013). They would only possess the sense of virtue that are programmed in them from before. They would not be virtuous towards their partners unless they are programmed to so. And hence the concept of virtue ethics are violated by this issue. The Contact Theory The Contact theory is concerned with the legitimacy and the originality of the issues that are hand. The feeling that are generated by the robots are not at all original (Magelssen et al., 2016). They are only framed feelings and are programmed by the AI and are also defined in them from earlier. Hence the concept of originality is violated here and it raises several question about the technology. Hence the contact theory of the classical ethical theories are violated by the emergence of this technology. Recommendation There are several recommendation for the technology and also for the people and the developers that are developing the technology. For the technology: The technology should be armed with the maximum level of artificial intelligence and should also not be committing any type of social misconducts and also should be prohibited from committing any kind of crime. In addition to this there should also be some policies in place for restricting the actions of the robots. For the developers: The developers may look into the situation any try a develop some kind of algorithms that can simulate the reproduction of a child into these machines. This would be increasing the efficiency of the machines. For the people: In addition to all these the people should not over use the technology and should be fully aware of the consequences of using the technologies before implementing them into their personal lives. This would be preventing any kind of unethical practices that would taking place from the cases that are at hand. Conclusion For conclusion it can be said that there has been a huge amount of advancement in the field of information technology. However with the increase in the level of the technologies there has been some ethical issues that have been raised with the situations. This report consists of a discussion of such an issue of the robots regarding the relationship with a human. References Davenport, T. H.
